New Years Fast

As we start off 2018 we want to make this “The Acceptable Year of the Lord”. This will not take place without fasting and prayer.

Let me share with you the when, why, and how this 3 days of praying and fasting will look as we go into the State wide Prayer watch at the Stadium on Saturday.

Why Do We Fast?

  • Jesus expects us to fast.

In Matt 6:16-18 He said, “when you fast…” He was making an assumption that a Christian would fast. Moreover, when He said these words He followed it with a bit of explanation that a fast should be personal and private. Your focus should be on your relationship with God.

  • For Guidance

Paul fasted about some decisions he made in leading the churches he started. The Israelites sought the Lord through fasting when they had been defeated in battle by the tribe of Benjamin. They were asking for guidance on what they should do and how to proceed (Judges 20:26-28).

  • For Spiritual Strength

While Jesus faced the temptation of Satan, He fasted for 40 days. There is a principle of spiritual strength that is demonstrated in fasting in the life of Christ (Luke 4:1-11).

Mark 9:29 shows that the disciples needed a power from God that comes only through fasting. Matthew 17:20 and 21 say that fasting and prayer coupled with faith in God can work spiritual miracles.

Why Do You Fast?

Fasting for biblical purposes should draw us closer to God. It should help us break away from the desire to satisfy our own lusts and materialism.

What is the reason you are seeking to fast? Would it be to worship God? To have the spiritual strength needed to go through a trial? Are you seeking God’s guidance in a decision? Or maybe you are fasting for an equally legitimate and God-honoring reason that I have not mentioned. Just know that our reason is to connect not only with God, but with our family as well.

When Are We Going to Fast?

Day One: Starting at midnight Jan 2nd we will have fluids only no sugar. On the 1st day (January 3rd) you can drink different types of juice (no sugar).

Day Two: January 4th, water only on this day.

Day Three: January 5th, no meats only fluids and veggies. Fast ends at midnight on the 5th.

Prayer Points

Day 1 is private between you and God. Focus on purging from things that cause you to be separated from God. Holiness is the goal. Being able to separate from people, places, and things that break your relationship with God. Confession and repentance is a major part to day one.

Day 2 is on a personal level focus on the ministry God has called you to, and how you can connect with the family bringing unity. Asking for guidance is a major point to day two.

Day 3 obedience is the main point. Asking God for the grace needed to do His will. Day three will be the manifestation of Holy Spirit in operation in our lives.

Remember the 3rd of every month is LTW’s day for 24 hours of prayer. So if you do not have an hour to pray please get with Elder Sandy Kai and get your hour to pray on this day every month.
